Currents Privacy Policy
Last updated: 26 August 2026
1. Introduction
Welcome to Currents. We are committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the Currents mobile app and our websites, including trycurrents.app.
2. Information We Collect
We collect the following types of information:
- Personal information (name, email address)
- User-generated content, including:
- Dive log data
- Diving certifications
- Comments and reviews
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide and maintain our service
- Authenticate users and manage accounts
- Store and retrieve your dive logs, certifications, and gear
- Improve and personalize your experience
- Communicate with you about updates and new features
- Analyze usage patterns to improve the app
Data Protection and Sharing:
- We regularly back up your data to prevent loss
- We do not share your personal information with third parties without your explicit consent, except as required by law
4. Data Storage and Security
Currents stores your dive data on Supabase, our cloud database, and on your own device. We use Google Firebase for push notifications, and for accounts created before our move to Supabase, to migrate legacy sign-ins. We do not store your dive logs in Firebase. We apply the following safeguards:
- Secure user authentication and account management
- Encrypted data storage and transmission
- Strict access controls to your data
- Regular security updates and system maintenance
5. Public Content and Our Website
Currents publishes some content on our public websites. This includes your Dive Passport, an aggregate summary you choose to share through a link, and public dive-site pages that combine data from divers who marked their dives "Everyone".
Only content you mark "Everyone" can appear on our public websites. Content marked "Only You" or "Followers" is never shown publicly. Your dive notes and your precise entry and exit GPS coordinates are never shown on our public websites.
Public dive-site pages may be indexed by search engines. Pages built around an individual diver's own contributions are marked "noindex" so they do not appear directly in search results. On indexable site pages, reviews appear under the reviewer's display name. Our Terms of Service explain the licence that governs this content.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
You can delete your account at any time from within the app. When you do, we remove your personal information and dive data from our active systems within 30 days, except where we must retain limited records to meet legal obligations. Content you shared publicly is removed from public display when you delete it or your account. Aggregate figures that no longer identify you may be retained.
7. Where Your Data Is Processed
Our database is hosted on Supabase infrastructure in Singapore. If you use Currents from the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, your information is transferred to and processed in Singapore under appropriate safeguards.
8. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your personal information
- Correct inaccuracies in your data
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Opt out of certain data collection and use
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format
9. Data Breaches
In the event of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
